CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple officially unveiled a redesigned Mac mini lineup, packing its next-generation M6 system-on-chip alongside the higher-performance M5 Pro into an ultracompact desktop footprint.
With the debut of the M6—Apple’s first state-of-the-art 2-nanometer processor—the tech giant is explicitly positioning the machine for “always-on agentic computing,” enabling users to run complex, local artificial intelligence workflows entirely on-device without relying on external cloud infrastructure.
Pre-orders opened August 25, 2026, with retail and delivery availability set for September 22, 2026. Base configurations start at $899 ($799 for education), while the M5 Pro model begins at $1,699 ($1,599 for education).
“Mac mini has always been our most versatile Mac,” said Johny Srouji, Apple’s chief hardware officer. “Whether it’s being used as a home computer, powering a professional studio, or as an always-on agentic device, it’s the little Mac that can do it all.”
Architectural Breakthrough: The 2nm M6 Chip
The headline achievement of the updated Mac mini is the inclusion of Apple’s M6 chip, built using an advanced 2-nanometer fabrication process. The architecture introduces a 12-core CPU consisting of two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores—delivering up to 40 percent faster CPU performance and the world’s fastest single-threaded execution.
However, the primary design pivot lies in the graphics and neural architecture. For the first time on a Mac mini, each core of the 12-core GPU features integrated Neural Accelerators. Paired with a Dual 16-core Neural Engine and 170GB/s of unified memory bandwidth, the M6 delivers up to 4x faster AI performance and 2x faster graphics than the previous generation.

For demanding enterprise environments, Apple simultaneously released the Mac mini with M5 Pro. Configurable with up to an 18-core CPU and a 20-core GPU, the M5 Pro variant supports up to 64GB of unified memory at 307GB/s of bandwidth.

Equipped with Thunderbolt 5 ports, the M5 Pro model enables users to physical-cluster multiple Mac mini nodes together. This hardware arrangement allows developer teams to pool memory resources and execute massive frontier AI models natively across a cluster.
Operating System, Connectivity, and Environmental Impact
The hardware operates alongside macOS 27 Golden Gate, introducing Siri AI with natural context tracking across user applications, automatic Shortcuts generation, and Visual Intelligence features via dedicated shortcuts.
Both models include Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, two front USB-C ports, a high-impedance headphone jack, and an upgraded 2.5Gb Ethernet port (configurable to 10Gb). Additionally, new genlock support via USB-C allows frame-accurate display synchronization for camera production setups like the iPhone 17 Pro.
Addressing sustainability, the desktop is built with 50 percent recycled materials overall—including 100 percent recycled aluminum in the chassis—and is manufactured using 100 percent renewable electricity, advancing Apple toward its carbon-neutral 2030 target.
