It has been learned that VTT, Finland’s largest state-owned technology research institute, has launched a series of pilot projects aimed at exploring the potential benefits of efficiently integrating quantum computing with artificial intelligence (AI).

The integration projects have achieved significant breakthroughs.

The institute’s substantial investment in AI and quantum computing received a significant boost in March of this year, when VTT partnered with IQM Quantum Computers (IQM) to launch Europe’s first 50-qubit quantum computer.

VTT and IQM are further deepening their commercial and technical partnership. IQM secured the contract, through a public tender, to deliver a large-scale superconducting 300-qubit quantum computer to VTT. This deal will solidify Finland’s leading position in global quantum computing.

Quantum computing, guided by the laws of quantum mechanics, can provide computing power far exceeding that of conventional computers in fields such as chemical catalysis, materials synthesis, drug discovery, and financial trading. Currently, quantum computers are in the expansion phase of qubit preparation and system integration, and are expected to enter the early stages of practical application. From the perspective of market applications, quantum computing has clearly divided into two major technology camps: general-purpose and specialized. General-purpose quantum computing aims to realize arbitrary quantum algorithms, relying on core properties such as quantum entanglement and superposition to pursue universal computing capabilities. Its development requires overcoming hardware bottlenecks such as high-precision qubit control and error correction, as well as the development of practical gate-circuit algorithms, to demonstrate “quantum supremacy” in a wider range of practical fields.

Specialized quantum computing focuses on optimizing a specific set of high-value, reusable problems, improving solution efficiency through customized quantum physics systems. While its scope of application is somewhat limited, customized development for a wide range of application scenarios has laid a practical foundation and market potential. It has pioneered commercialization in the NISQ (noisy intermediate-scale quantum computing) era and has become a major force in current industrial applications.

Tech giants continue to pursue cutting-edge applications.

The development of quantum computing is benefiting from the original innovations in physics over the past few decades. Original innovation is paramount and requires a long-term approach. For example, AI and quantum information, two key areas today, are pushing the limits of traditional technologies and bringing new impetus to the development of information technology.

In this process, technology giants continue to enter the market. Recently, scientists from Alphabet, Google’s (GOOG) parent company, have reportedly won Nobel Prizes for two consecutive years, further highlighting the tech giant’s deep expertise in cutting-edge basic research in areas such as artificial intelligence and quantum computing. These technologies are expected to have a disruptive impact on future business and market landscapes.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai quickly congratulated the laureates and emphasized that the laureates’ research laid the foundation for the company’s latest breakthroughs in quantum computing. Their work paves the way for the realization of future error-corrected quantum computers. This statement sends a clear signal to the market: Google’s long-term investment in fundamental science is transforming into core competitiveness in key future technologies.

At the same time, against the backdrop of a global quantum computing investment boom, tech giant Nvidia’s (NVDA) systematic investments in PsiQuantum, a photon quantum approach, QuEra, a neutral atom approach, and Quantinuum, a trapped ion approach, clearly demonstrate the firm confidence of top global investors in the commercialization and industrialization prospects of quantum computing. WiMi Creates a Future Quantum Ecosystem

Indeed, facing this crucial future industry, Wimi Hologram Cloud Inc. (WIMI), a global leader in quantum computing, has stepped up its efforts to cultivate top talent, attract outstanding teams from around the globe, expand the business ecosystem for the convergence of “quantum computing + AI” applications, and actively foster and improve an innovative ecosystem. These initiatives are yielding tangible results and fostering a new model of scientific research collaboration.

In addition, WiMi has established a research team dedicated to the development of quantum computing, focusing on cutting-edge AI technologies. These efforts have already achieved initial success and will continue to build a quantum computing future industry cluster to further attract top talent, unicorn companies, high-quality incubators, and other resources. This will continuously increase the concentration of innovation and accelerate the development and implementation of the quantum industry.

Summary
A breakthrough in quantum technology will not only be crucial for achieving fault-tolerant computing but will also make quantum applications in industries such as finance, medicine, and materials a foreseeable future. Although there are bound to be some difficulties along the way, industry-leading companies have already clearly planned their development routes for the next five to ten years, and their continued investment is paving the way for them to gain a favorable position in the next round of technological revolution. Therefore, the prospects are quite exciting.
