HUNTINGTON BEACH, Calif.
The most difficult part of any new journey, experience, or endeavor is the very beginning of it all. In other words, the hardest part is always getting started. To that end, every single day, the Atoll Boards blog is helping brand-new paddlers find their footing in the wonderful world of stand-up paddle boarding (SUP-ing). Moreover, over the course of the last few weeks, the most recent entries into the SUP manufacturer’s blog have been specifically dedicated to some of the most common questions among new and prospective paddle boarders. Fortunately, the Atoll Boards team is fully staffed with SUP experts who collectively hold a considerable wealth of knowledge, information, experience, etc. In short, whatever one’s inquiry may be, the company’s team is ready to provide assistance in any way they can. For examples of this, one need not look further than the latest wave of blog entries.
Earlier this month, the team at Atoll Boards looked at the age-old question, “How long does it take to learn how to SUP?” In the aptly titled entry, the expert SUP-ers stated, “[The] most basic goal—feeling comfortable standing up on the board while actively paddling in calm waters—typically takes, on average, two to four hours of practice.” They would go on to say that during these initial hours of practice, “[One] will learn many important fundamentals, such as the best way to stand on an SUP, whether or not to bend one’s knees, and several other essential skills.” What’s more, the Atoll Boards blog has separate articles for each of these learning points as well.
Shortly thereafter, in the next post, ’Should I Take Stand-up Paddle Boarding Lessons?’, the professional SUP-ers looked at all of the advantages that come with learning directly from an expert. At the same time, though, the writers acknowledged the validity of trying to teach one’s self. More specifically, in this article, they said, “As much as we admire the DIY attitude, there is no denying that SUP lessons will ultimately speed up the learning process. While [one] can probably figure out most things on [one’s] own, without instruction, it will inevitably be on a trial-and-error basis.”
In addition to several other valuable articles—such as ‘Can a SUP Support More Than One Person?’ and ‘Is SUP-ing an Expensive Hobby?’—the paddle boarding experts also explained the importance of a high-quality paddle in their most recent publication, ‘What is the Best Type of Paddle for SUP-ing?’ In it, they point out a common misconception, “When it comes to the basics of stand-up paddle boarding (SUP-ing), one might think that the board is the most important piece of equipment for a successful SUP session. While the board is obviously the foundation for SUP-ing, [one] won’t get very far without a good paddle. After all, if [one] can’t properly propel [one’s self] through the water, then [one is] not going to have a very fun, enjoyable, or comfortable paddle.”
Suffice it to say, all of these excerpts are just small samples of the helpful, insightful, and plentiful publications throughout the entirety of the official Atoll Boards blog. Therefore, it goes without saying that these online resources can be of immense help to all types of stand-up paddle boarders, regardless of their experience level, SUP-ing style, or any other variables. In short, whether one has been paddle boarding for five minutes or five years, the Atoll Boards blog is bound to have something of value to them.
