So, where do you start?

Henry Ford Museum of American Innovation

Why not start with one of the reasons that Detroit is on the map (aside from music): cars? Detroit is nicknamed Motor City for a reason, and no visit is complete without checking out this museum.

The museum sprawls over 250 acres and showcases the Rosa Parks bus, the Model T, and the 1865 Roper. You will enjoy over 300 years of American innovation and new exhibitions popping up all the time.

Old St. Mary’s Catholic Church

You don’t need to be religious to enjoy the breathtaking interior of this church. It is a beautiful reminder of the Victorian Gothic era, and it dates back to the 1800s.

The grand wooden confessionals, enormously high ceilings, and stained glass windows it hard not to be blown away. You might not want to head there for a service, but there are choirs, musical arrangements, composers, and more.

Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory

You can kill two birds with one stone; heading to Belle Island, you will find the Anna Scripps Whitcomb Conservatory. There are multiple manicured gardens and a stunning palm court, and the glass building itself is beautiful. The conservatory has been open since 1904 and sits on 13 acres, where you’ll find a lily pond to waste a few hours next to.

There are hundreds of tropical plants that contain perennials and annuals – which means no matter what time you visit, you’ll be treated to plenty of blooming plants.

MGM Grand

Enjoy a little bit of the Las Vegas high life in Detroit. The huge MGM Grand Detroit has everything from tables and dice to a buffet and a spa. Home to a massive 3,500 slots, there are more than a couple of things to do here.

You don’t need to stay at the hotel to enjoy one of the 121 card tables, which makes it perfect for a night out.

Coney Island Hot Dogs

Nope, not the Coney Island of New York, but Michigan’s Coney Island – which isn’t actually an island at all. Instead, it is what they call their very famous hot dog topped with mustard and diced onions.

You can find more than a couple of Coney Islands in Detroit, though, because it almost means a restaurant. Here is a couple that you should be heading to: Lafayette Coney Island, Woodward Coney Restaurant, and American Coney Island.

While you’re there, you should see if you can indulge in the roar of the crowds at almost any sports game – because if there is one thing that Detroiters are passionate about, it is their favorite teams.
