Japanese Startups & JETRO Pitched Investors

Various innovative startups you’re about to discover at CES2024

At CES 2024, the Japan External Trade Organization (JETRO) took a significant step forward in showcasing Japan’s innovative prowess, particularly in the field of AI and other “cool” technologies. Supporting a remarkable ensemble of 30 Japanese startups, JETRO, in its sixth year at the event, made a notable impact at the Japan (J-Startup) Pavilion, located in the heart of Eureka Park’s tech arena.

The pavilion, themed “Organized Chaos,” presented a unique blend of minimalist aesthetics and dynamic design. The central Moonshot Bar & Lounge, previously known as the Moonshot Café, served as a hub for meaningful discussions and potential business opportunities. Here, the spirit of aiming high and reaching beyond existing horizons was palpable among the vibrant community of innovators and visitors.

What set this year apart were the pitch events hosted by JETRO. For the first time, JETRO conducted pitch sessions twice daily, showcasing a wide array of innovations. The morning sessions, titled “Japan Startup Intro,” featured a series of Japanese startups, each unveiling their latest creations. The afternoon sessions, known as the “Global Pitch Battle,” opened the stage for a more diverse group of international startups, further enriching the event with a global perspective on innovation.

One of the most intriguing pitches came from a Japanese startup that introduced music specifically designed for dogs. It was a delightful and somewhat whimsical concept that highlighted the creative edge Japanese innovators often bring to the table. However, it was noted, much to the amusement of the audience, that pets were unfortunately not allowed to cast their votes on these melodious innovations.

The array of pitches demonstrated Japan’s leadership in AI and other groundbreaking technologies, affirming the country’s reputation for developing exceptionally “cool” and sometimes unconventional products. The Japan Pavilion, with its unique design and engaging activities like professional calligraphy performances, stood out as a testament to Japan’s blend of tradition and cutting-edge technology.

Overall, JETRO’s presence at CES 2024 not only highlights Japan’s technological advancements but also offered a platform for startups to shine on an international stage, illustrating Japan’s growing influence in the global tech landscape.
