New Jersey Digest Unveils “New Jersey’s 30 Best Restaurants of 2025”

New Jersey Digest has released its annual “New Jersey’s 30 Best Restaurants” list for 2025, spotlighting the chefs, dining rooms, and culinary visions that continue to define—and elevate—the Garden State’s dining scene. I’m the Publisher of New Jersey as I’m really proud of Peter and Michael as they put the list together.  I always get calls when this comes out – some good and some to complain.  But I have no say or influence over this list whatsoever.  The whole idea is two experts in the field to share their opinion.  They may not like me saying this, they personally go out of pocket to support this list. Which is not an inexpensive proposition.

This list is curated by New Jersey Digest Food & Drink Editor Peter Candia and Editor-in-Chief Michael Scivoli, the list is the result of a year spent traveling the state, revisiting standouts, checking out new openings and evaluating restaurants on food, consistency, hospitality, and overall experience.

The 2025 list spans the entire state, from Sussex County to the Jersey Shore, and from restaurant corridors shadowed by Manhattan to those anchored by Philadelphia. The selections reflect New Jersey’s breadth and maturity as a food destination—one that continues to grow more competitive each year.

As in past years, the list contains no paid placements or partnerships. Restaurants were chosen solely on merit. I could make a lot of money selling out the list, but unlike other outlets, we need this list to be pure from an editorial perspective. For 2025, the editors introduced a new guideline: chefs were capped at two restaurants per list, a decision made to preserve the integrity and selectivity of the ranking as New Jersey’s dining scene expands. I agree with this move from Peter and Michael wholeheartedly.

“The decision was a conscious one,” Candia said. “We are looking to start a conversation. We could have expanded the list to 40, 50, 60 spots, but that would, in our view, dilute its meaning. Every restaurant here earned their rightful spot as one of the best.”

The list features a mix of longtime benchmarks and new additions, with standout performances across Italian, Korean, French, Indian, Iberian, Japanese, contemporary American, and more. Restaurants new to the list are marked accordingly. “I personally use this list as a guide to determine where my next date night or celebration will be”. Dan Caruso added of Dan Caruso Media who is avid foodie.

“New Jersey’s 30 Best Restaurants of 2025” is now live on New Jersey Digest.

No list is ever perfect, but Peter and Michael put this list together in good faith.  I’d love to hear what you think of the list and do you agree with their selections?  Is there any places they may have missed.
