Tim Chey who wrote and directed the seminal Rapture movie ‘Final The Rapture’ believes the Rapture could be months away and the coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic is from God. During an interview Chey shared the following:
“The scope of this coronavirus pandemic is jaw-dropping in precedence,” says Chey. “It’s reminiscent of the first day after the Rapture.”
A former atheist and Harvard alumnus, Chey studied the Rapture in the Bible and its application to these times when writing and directing his feature film that hit theaters in 2013.
“The word Rapture is in the Bible,” he says. “The Greek word from this term ‘Rapture’ is ‘Harpazo’ which is derived from 1 Thessalonians 4:17, translated to be ‘caught up.’ The Latin translation of this verse is Rapturo.”
Chey believes all the signs have been fulfilled, including 2 Timothy 3:1-4: “ But mark this: There will be terrible times in the last days. People will be lovers of themselves, lovers of money, boastful, proud, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, without love, unforgiving, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not lovers of the good, treacherous, rash, conceited, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God.”
Chey also believes the coronavirus is part of the end time scenario the Bible talks about.
Chey bases it on this verse: “There will be great earthquakes, and famines and diseases worldwide. And there will be terrors and great signs from heaven.” Luke 21:11
So far the coronavirus (Covid-19) has had earth-shattering consequences, stopping the entire world in its track. There has been nothing like this in modern history. Entire cities have been shut down. People ordered to stay home. Businesses shut down everywhere. Some analysts say the Great Depression is coming upon the world.
Why Chey believes he is right:
“If you carefully study Matthew 24:32-34,” he says, “Jesus says the generation that sees the budding of the fig tree which many scholars believe is Israel getting back it’s nation in 1948, that generation will see the coming of the Lord. The current generation in the Bible is 80 years according to Psalm 90:10.
“So add 80 years to 1948 and you come up with 2028. You have to subtract 7 years because true Believers in Christ will be raptured. So 2028 minus 7 leaves us with 2021 as the latest date before the Rapture.
“No one knows the day or hour, I know this. Anyone who says they know the exact date is a heretic. But we can know the season,” concludes Chey. “We are most definitely in the final season of mankind.”
Chey says God is ‘not an author of confusion’ (1 Corinth 14:33) so when Christ says ‘When these things begin to take place, stand up and lift up your heads, because your redemption is drawing near’ (Luke 21:28), Chey believes near is ‘near’.
“I believe the Rapture could be days or months away – not years,” he says. “This coronavirus is God’s way of perhaps settling the entire world down and giving everyone one last chance to find Christ.”
Chey shot ‘Final the Rapture’ in 2013 in four countries, including Tokyo, Japan and Buenos Aires, Argentina. It looks at four character’s lives immediately after the Rapture.
