The BEAUTY&YOU program is cementing India’s role as a global laboratory for consumer and technological advancement in the prestige cosmetics industry.

The Estée Lauder Companies (ELC) has announced the winners of its BEAUTY&YOU India 2025 program, an initiative that has rapidly evolved into a significant engine for fostering high-level beauty entrepreneurship across the subcontinent. The program, now in its third year and supported by the Government of India’s Startup India and the influential retailer Nykaa, serves less as a traditional competition and more as a sophisticated pipeline for identifying and scaling novel concepts that address the unique demands of a rapidly evolving Indian consumer base. The selection of this year’s cohort underscores a strategic pivot in the global beauty sector: the recognition of India not merely as an emerging market for established Western brands, but as a critical source of original innovation and technological breakthroughs.

An Established Global Powerhouse Bets on Local Depth

To appreciate the significance of this program, one must consider the strategic position of ELC itself. As one of the world’s preeminent stewards of prestige beauty, with a portfolio that includes marquee brands such as La Mer, M.A.C., and Jo Malone London, ELC’s investment in a localized incubation program signals a long-term commitment beyond simple market entry. The company, which operates in approximately 150 countries, has historically relied on in-house research and acquisition, but BEAUTY&YOU represents a forward-looking strategy: harnessing decentralized, local genius to drive future product and market relevance. Since its inception in 2022, the program has attracted nearly 2,500 applications, with a notable majority from women entrepreneurs, affirming its role as a key platform for gender diversity in high-growth enterprise.

Decoding India’s New Consumer Demands

The four winning categories this year were designed to reflect the most pressing areas of opportunity and technological need within the Indian beauty landscape. The winning concepts move beyond simple product creation and address core issues of climate, inclusivity, and efficacy.

Antinorm, the winner of the Grow award for best in-market brand, exemplifies the trend toward “climate-tailored” formulations. Founder Aparna Saxena’s focus on multitasking products that simplify complex routines speaks directly to the busy, urban Indian woman and the challenges posed by the country’s diverse and often extreme climatic conditions. This is a subtle yet crucial differentiator from Western product development, which often focuses on less variable environments.

The most profound technological potential lies with Hitech Formulations, which secured the Breakthrough award. Its focus on advanced encapsulation technology for delivering anti-aging and pigmentation-fighting ingredients represents a significant scientific stride. Pigmentation issues are a prevalent concern in South Asian skin tones, and new, stable delivery systems are essential to increasing efficacy, positioning this technology as globally exportable.

Empowering the Visionary Women of the Ecosystem

A new and noteworthy addition to the 2025 program was the Visionary Women’s Award, co-presented with Startup India. This award highlights the joint commitment of ELC and the Government of India’s Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) to support women-led startups and sustainable sourcing.

The inaugural recipient, Sohrai, co-founded by Khanak Gupta, embodies a synthesis of social purpose and modern formulation. Sohrai utilizes an indigenous ingredient, Mahua, and sources it through local partnerships that create economic opportunities for tribal women and communities. As ELC’s Nadine Graf noted, this award celebrates the “ambition, ingenuity, and leadership of women founders,” recognizing that the next generation of entrepreneurial success in India will be intrinsically linked to social equity and responsible value chains.

Moreover, the Imagine category winner, Mimiq, addresses a critical need for inclusivity. Founder Harsha Soundararajan’s high-performance complexion products for individuals with visible skin differences, such as vitiligo, moves the Indian beauty narrative past simple shade-matching and into a more empathetic, high-stakes realm of emotional and social well-being.

The Ecosystem of Global and Local Partnership

The strength of the BEAUTY&YOU initiative lies in the caliber of the coalition behind it. The winners will receive not only funding but also critical mentorship from global ELC experts and brand-building support from Nykaa, the omnichannel retailer that commands unparalleled consumer trust and distribution reach in the country. The final judging panel included ELC leadership such as President and CEO Stéphane de La Faverie, alongside prominent Indian figures like Nivruti Rai, CEO of Invest India, and Nykaa’s Falguni Nayar and Anchit Nayar, ensuring a blend of global prestige standards and deep local market fluency.

As Rohan Vaziralli, General Manager for ELC India, observed, the program is “unlocking possibilities” for the broader beauty ecosystem. The success of alumni, some of whom have secured venture capital and gained national visibility on platforms like Shark Tank India, further validates the program’s model. This sophisticated partnership structure ensures that the winning brands are not merely celebrated but are given a viable path toward scale and global relevance, cementing India’s emerging role as a laboratory for the future of prestige cosmetics (www.beautyandyouawards.com).

This initiative underscores a larger truth: the future of beauty innovation will increasingly be defined by highly localized, technologically sophisticated solutions, and ELC’s investment in the BEAUTY&YOU program is a clear bet on India as the epicenter of that transformation.
