Baton Rouge Soldier Outreach will host a hands-on holiday wreath-making workshop titled “Pinterest with Pam” on Saturday, December 6, from 6 pm to 9 pm at The Bookstore located at 10466 Airline Highway, Suite B in Baton Rouge. The workshop gives community members a way to create a finished holiday wreath while supporting the organization’s mission to provide care packages to deployed service members.

“This workshop brings people together in a comfortable setting where creativity supports a bigger purpose,” said Christy Smith, Founder and CEO of Baton Rouge Soldier Outreach. “Each participant helps us reach service members who may be far from home during the holiday season.”

About the Event

The workshop is designed for all skill levels. Participants receive all the materials needed to complete a wreath, along with clear, step-by-step instructions from Pam, a longtime volunteer. The session focuses on simplicity and completion, allowing attendees to leave with a wreath they created themselves.

“People sometimes hesitate to join craft events because they think they won’t know what to do,” said Smith. “This workshop removes that worry. You show up, follow the steps, and leave with something you can actually use.”

Supporting Deployed Service Members

The ten-dollar donation collected from each attendee supports Baton Rouge Soldier Outreach’s year-round care package program. These packages include comfort items, toiletries, snacks, and handwritten notes sent to deployed service members worldwide.

“We hear directly from soldiers about how meaningful these shipments are,” said Smith. “Events like this help us continue sending support to bases in multiple regions.”

About The Bookstore

The Bookstore is a neighborhood bar known for its literature-inspired interior and creative community programming. Owned by Pamela Sandoz, the venue features tables covered in pages from classic novels and shelves filled with fiction and nonfiction titles. Its themed menus rotate regularly and draw readers, young professionals, longtime locals, and creative groups. The venue also hosts monthly arts-and-crafts nights called “Pinterest with Pam.”

“The Bookstore has always welcomed community events,” said Smith. “Its atmosphere fits perfectly with the experience we want this workshop to offer.”

About BR Soldier Outreach

BR Soldier Outreach began in 2008 as a small community effort focused on sending comfort items to deployed service members. What started at a local motorcycle dealership grew into a recognized volunteer operation. In July 2017, the organization became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and expanded its efforts to reach soldiers around the world.

Since its founding, BR Soldier Outreach has packed and shipped thousands of pounds of essential items, delivering care packages that help boost morale for men and women serving overseas. The organization remains volunteer-driven and supported by donations from individuals, community partners, and local businesses.

“The strength of our mission comes from the people who choose to get involved,” said Smith. “Every care package sent and every event we host is powered by volunteers and supporters who want to make a difference for deployed troops.”

Holiday Season Outreach

The holiday season is one of the busiest periods for the organization’s care package shipments. During this time, deployed service members often have fewer comforts and limited communication with family. BR Soldier Outreach provides practical supplies and messages of support to help maintain morale.

“The holidays can be especially challenging for soldiers,” said Smith. “Every donation from this event goes directly toward reminding them they are not forgotten.”
