DENHAM SPRINGS, LA – April 23, 2025 – The Louisiana Hornets 14U softball team is proud to name Brooklyn Donaldson as one of this week’s Featured Players, recognizing her outstanding presence behind the plate, her tenacity in the infield, and her relentless drive both on and off the diamond.

As the team continues highlighting two athletes each week to showcase the full depth of talent on its roster, Donaldson stands out as a force to be reckoned with—a compact competitor who lets her play speak volumes.

“Brooklyn may be small in size, but her game and her voice are huge,” said Jonathan Seal, head coach of the Louisiana Hornets 14U team. “She’s fearless behind the plate, smart on the bases, and always brings intensity to every inning. She’s the kind of player who makes everyone around her better.”

A Competitive Edge From Day One

Brooklyn’s journey into competition began well before she ever stepped onto a softball field. In 2015, she was crowned Tri-State Queen across Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana—an early testament to her presence, poise, and determination. Those same qualities now fuel her success in softball, where she thrives in high-pressure moments and commands attention with her leadership and grit.

She began playing tournament ball shortly after turning seven years old and quickly found a home in travel softball. Her early introduction to competitive sports helped lay the foundation for a work ethic and mindset that continue to push her forward.

According to research from the Aspen Institute’s Project Play, young athletes who participate in a range of experiences early on—from pageants to multiple sports—are more likely to develop well-rounded confidence and long-term enjoyment of athletic life. Donaldson’s journey exemplifies that holistic growth.

Commanding the Field

As a catcher and second baseman, Brooklyn brings athletic versatility and mental sharpness to every game. Her quick reflexes, game awareness, and strong throwing arm make her a defensive anchor. At second base, she displays speed, timing, and a willingness to get dirty on every play.

“She’s one of the most dependable defenders we have. She anticipates, reacts, and executes like a seasoned vet,” said Seal. “And she’s constantly working to improve—always the first to ask questions, put in extra reps, or encourage a teammate.”

Behind the plate, Brooklyn’s fearlessness is a standout quality. Blocking wild pitches, tracking foul balls, and gunning down base runners is all part of her routine. Her passion, precision, and presence make her a natural leader on the field.

More Than a Player: A Future Powerhouse

Brooklyn’s ambitions stretch far beyond the baselines. She dreams of one day playing collegiate softball for the University of Oklahoma, a perennial powerhouse in the sport. But her goals don’t stop there. With a sharp mind and an outspoken spirit, she plans to become a lawyer someday.

“She flat out told us, ‘I want to be a lawyer because I love to argue,’ and no one doubts she’ll do just that,” Seal said with a laugh. “She’s driven, articulate, and not afraid to stand her ground—that’s Brooklyn in a nutshell.”

According to the NCAA’s Mental Health Best Practices, athletes who build strong identities outside of sports and set meaningful academic and personal goals often experience better emotional balance and long-term success. Brooklyn’s vision and self-awareness make her a standout example.

A Hornet to Watch

The Louisiana Hornets’ Featured Player initiative is about more than stats. It’s about celebrating character, leadership, and the impact young athletes have on their teams and communities.

Brooklyn Donaldson embodies all of those qualities. From her fearless play to her pageant-winning poise, she shows up with passion in everything she does.

“She may be one of the smallest players on the field, but she has one of the biggest personalities,” Seal added. “Brooklyn is a game-changer, and it’s only the beginning for her.”
