Music has been shown to have several benefits for both physical and mental health. Music can help reduce stress levels, lower blood pressure, and boost immunity. It can also improve cognitive function, increase alertness, and enhance the quality of sleep. Music has also been found to be beneficial for mental health, with studies showing that it can reduce anxiety and depression, improve mood, and promote positive emotions. Music can even increase self-esteem and confidence and help people to cope with difficult life events. In short, music is a powerful tool that can have a significant impact on our physical and mental wellbeing.

Zoe Rex is no stranger to the soothing effects that music can have; but for Zoe, it goes both ways. Zoe Rex is a music artist from Santa Clarita and is also a gun-violence survivor. In 2019 Zoe was innocently doing her schoolwork at Saugus Highschool, when the loud pops and bangs of gunfire broke out. The event was terrifying for everyone involved, and two innocent lives were taken, with many others left injured or seriously traumatized. Zoe Rex dealt with post-traumatic stress disorder, and music helped her cope. According to Rex, music has always been a soothing way to reduce stress, but making music according to Rex, has also been an incredibly healing experience.

“Music has been a way for me to take my emotions and externalize them in a healthy way”

Zoe Rex told me when asked about the way music has affected her life in a positive way.

“I love listening to music, but making music just makes me feel so good and helps me get my emotions out to prevent bottling them up inside.

Time and time again, music seems to be a beautiful and healing tool. Music has also been shown to have a number of benefits for neurological health. Scientific studies have shown that music can help improve memory, increase focus, and boost mood. music has also been shown to reduce cortisol levels and promote relaxation, which means listening to your favorite music can also help promote better sleep quality. Music has even been shown to help to reduce the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia. For Zoe Rex, it has helped her heal and lower her stress levels.

Emotion is incredibly important to Zoe. Oftentimes, the SCV artists’ songs are dealing with emotions of happiness, and sometimes they touch on a more melancholy note as well. What is fascinating about Zoe Rex, is that she is one of the most unique female artists to come out of the Santa Clarita Valley and remains unrivaled by any other female artists.  Zoe takes on a musical persona that matches her real-life swagger. In some ways, Zoe is perfectly summed up as an androgynous artist that can convey masculinity and femininity in such unique ways, so well, that putting her in a box with limitations is almost impossible.

Zoe Rex is most certainly one of Santa Clarita’s newest emerging artists, with loads of promise and originality, it’s easy to see she is going places.  It hasn’t always been easy for the 20-year-old music maker, but with a love for music coupled with her strong visible tones of originality, the future looks bright for Rex.

Zoe Rex just released a brand new song called Pretty Wreck, which can be streamed on Spotify here.
