Man struck and killed by car on N.J. highway

A 56-year-old pedestrian was struck and killed by a car on Route 9 in Howell late Friday night, authorities said. The man, identified only as a resident of Berkeley Township, was walking north on the roadway between New Friendship Road and Salem Hill Road around 9:35 p.m. when he was hit from behind, according to a statement from the Howell Township Police Department.
