Just before CSE 2019, Dell Launches Business Laptop

Recently, Dell announced the launch of its new product- the Latitude 7400 2-in-1 laptop and the announcement of this launch was made right before CES 2019. Their new product is aimed at business users, and it has been claimed that it will be the world’s smallest commercial 14-inch laptop. Dell went on to say that the laptop has been designed from scratch and it boasts of features like Dell’s ExpressSign-in, Cat. 16 Gigabit LTE, and ExpressCharge. These features claim to offer up to an 80 percent charge in an hour, and it will be available on sale in the US in March, and its starting price will be approximately $1,599 (about Rs. 1,11,100).

The laptop will be available in a new Titan Gray finish, and it will come with a machined aluminum body and a brushed hairline design. The laptop will weight about 1.36kg, but this number may vary based on the configuration that has been selected by the user. Since it is a 2-in-1 laptop, the display of the laptop has the ability to be tilted all the way around so as to be used as a tablet. Dell also said that the thermal solution in the laptop has been improved, and it makes use of a material called GORE, that comes infused with an aerogel, that is similar to what NASA uses.

The main highlight is the Dells ExpressSign-in that makes use of a combination of Intel’s Context Sensing Technology and Windows Hello, that will automatically authenticate the user. The proximity sensor has been built into the laptop which helps in detecting the user’s presence as the user approaches it, making the laptop wake up automatically, the post which the infrared camera system present in the laptop will be used to authenticate the user’s face and sign them into Windows. Dell said that the Latitude 7400 2-in-1 has the ability to recognize the user when they are away thereby automatically locking it and putting it to sleep.

It is powered by Intel’s 8th generation U-series ‘Whiskey Lake’ CPUs and is supported by up to 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM, up to 1TB M.2 PCIe NVMe SSD and come integrated with Intel UHD Graphics 620 GPU. The laptop comes with a 14-inch touch display, full-HD (16:9) resolution, anti-reflective and anti-smudge treatments as well as Gorilla Glass 5. It comes with the support of Dell’s Active Pen, that is sold separately. The display comes with narrow borders on all sides, but even then, it comes with a webcam that has an infrared camera for Windows Hello up on the top.

With respect to physical connectivity, it comes with two USB Type-A 3.1 (Gen1) ports, two Thunderbolt 3 ports (Type-C), a full-sized HDMI port, SIM card slot on compatible models, MicroSD card reader, SmartCard reader, and a Noble Wedge Lock slot. It comes with dual-band 802.11ac Wi-Fi with 2×2 MIMO antennas, Bluetooth 5.0, and an option for an LTE version with Cat. 16 Gigabit LTE speeds for wireless connectivity. Since it is a business laptop, it comes with additional security in the form of Dell’s ControlVault 3 that provides multi-factor authentication for hardware and comes with programs such as VMware’s Workspace ONE pre-installed.
