EU leaders have agreed a massive new package of sanctions on Russia at a crisis summit in Brussels, targeting the country’s energy, finance and transport sectors, a joint statement from the member states announced on Thursday. The package is much bigger than previous targeted restrictions in response to Russia’s aggression towards Ukraine and includes technology export bans and restricts Moscow’s access to the European Union’s financial markets.
